The way that is worded, it almost sounds like they will be selling the base game (pre-searing)with each chapter, but the world content will be different. Kind of like how pve can mingle with pvp characters within the pvp staging areas.

personally, i dont care about the lvl cap. all i want to see are some new, really hard areas, with many more attribute point quests(like 6), but they are MUCH harder then any current quest.

i highly doubt that you will be able to use chapter 2 without chapter one. its not like xbox or PS2 games where they companies pay a one time fee for the games creation and manufactur. Anet also plays for the servers the GW takes up, and if you need chapt1 to use chapt 2, thats just more money in their pocket. its either that, or we get per month fee on a future chapter.

It won't happen because of PVP as all PVP charactor must be level20 and just another thought of there were restrictions place on non ascened players they wouldn't be bothered to buy the new chapters and that is not what A.net want. They want them to buy the next chapter or not as I recall Alex Weeks saying for Faster charactor Advancement they just might make the ascention easier for all to ascend.

To me, all of these ideas being brought forward about the level cap will just change the entirety of Guild Wars itself. The reason there are so many people playing it, is simply because it isnt a time consuming game (comparitively), and it doesnt cost money every month. If the level cap was raised, everyone would have to work at *least* twice as long to get to the end of the game. If new "chapters" were brought out, and you had to pay extra for it, it would be as if you werent getting the entire game, when you paid fifty bucks in the first place.
Seriously people, do you think that such huge changes will ever occur on such a successful game? I dont.

Exclamation Answer to the post

Havent read ALL the posts between here and the first tab, but i think i can answer the posted question. On the most current (at this time) fan site interview with guildwars the following question and response answers the question pretty well:

GameAmp:
One of the common gripes I hear from Guild Wars gamers is the inability to create more than four characters with a single account. With such a low level cap and fast game progression, why did Guild Wars feel that they would limit the character slots to four rather then increase it to six and allow everyone to make a primary profession with each character on their account? In addition, will the options to have more character slots become available in future expansions?

Guild Wars:
Four seemed a good number at the time of release. Making decisions is part of an RPG, we all know that. No one can expect a limitless inventory, for instance. We like four, but we're considering the possibilities of more in the future. I believe that when the next campaign comes along, we will see an increase in slots. No idea by how much, but we wouldn't release a new campaign and ask that you wipe a character to play it! .

So as it appears it looks like that a new character will have to be created in order to play the new chapter. This also opens up new discussion on the level cap...if everyone is required to start over on a specific "chapter 2 character" it would be easy to highten the lvl cap on chapter 2 alone. This would also mean a whole seperate tourny (a seperate hoh type arena for chapter 2).

This is my take on the whole situation...i honestly dont think the lvl cap will be raised but it IS possible in this new chapter if it is COMPLETELY seperate from the 1st chapter.

PS. this is one of my first posts so feel free to respond directly to me or say hi if you ever see me in the game

It would make the two different chapters' characters incompatible with each other in the pvp realm making their interaction pointless and detract from the game.

I agree phades but if they seperated the two chapters in pvp, more people would feel inclined to buy the new chapter.

Honestly, I've seen bigger changes over the years that eq evolved and it was arguably one of the most successful online games ever no?

I'm guilty of kind of skimming this thread so excuse me if I'm reiterating, but I'm gettin hungry and I wanna get this thought out there. I'm actually rahter hoping that Anet will make at least some of the new PVE content thats coming in the update and the expansion for ascended characters only. I really think that GW could have some of the best cooperative play of any game on the net if they developed the RP character into something more than a tool to unlock things for PVP. I cant see any reason to NOT put content thats intended for those of us who havent deleted all our PVE in an effort to be as flexible as possible for the arena. I personally have 4 PVE characters, currently at least, I've got a smallish guild and I've got some RL chums who play casually, I've got my main 2 characters, and 2 that only play when they are on so that we can go thru the game as a team and have fun like that. When they get ascended and lvl 20 and all that I'll have 4 ascended. Now, Whats so tradgic about allowing people like me to have some content devoted to the characters we actually value as opposed to delete for the sake of being flexible in HOH?

that will make a nice promotion wont it?

buy chapter 2 and get chapter 1 for only 15 dollars

i am assuming that chapter 1 will not be needed and a level 20 basic will be provided along with the new professions/race (s) for chapter 2

or if required toss it in for free and go

CHAPTER 1 INCLUDED AT NO EXTRA COST

Ascention happens in the Crystal Desert, perhaps it means you will be able to access chapter 2 straight after the Crystal Desert without completing chapter 1.

anyone know or have any guesses whether Chapter 2 is gunna be releases like a whole new game, or downloadable over the internet with a credit card? im kinda leaning towards the online download cuz that way they can advertise and sell the "chapters 1 and 2" bundle and attract more people that have never played. It seems that most of the area maps are downloaded anyway and the only thing that is on the CD's were the basic graphics and sound...not like too much of that will change. Im kinda pumped by the new music downloads comin out for the game in the next month though!

On the level Cap things:

I could be raised, by adding Elite Professions which use a differant XP bar. It's q uite simple transition form the current setup. it would technically ad a higher level, but exclude elite classes form teh current arensa so they can only take part in the higher ones, and visa versa.

Thsi woudl technically add a third profession to a characer, this distinction coudl be used as a key to gain access to differant aspects of the game. Such as elite skill points, and elite exp which you get from the expansions monsters.

Elite professions could add a lot more character options, such as a Warriro could become a Paladin or Mercenary.

I think doing it this way would be good. it would also mean existing characters would be used.

On new content:

I heard talk that there will be at least 1 new race, thats if they can balance it all. Which in turn could expand pre-searing, have more content up north for the new race.

Howevr I think the map will bolt on to the top of the current one and double the size of each part of the game.

The Same Complaints:

I do expect that people will Demand UAS for Chapter 2 skills, becasue they will have to grind to get them.

Now, whatever i say here, ANet's probably not going to care. But i might as well:

Implement a "Aura of the Ascended" which gives you access to the second attribute build;[/B].

-Maintain two sets of attributes, one for chapter 1 and one for chapter 2;
-Implement new attributes for greater skill flexibility;
-Implement new skills to use those extra attribute points;
-Raise level cap so people can get chapter 2 attribute points.

Basically:
-Play chapter 2 to build your second attribute set/skills.
-Play chapter 1 to build your first attribute set/skills.

ok, people, i think the answer is in the game right now...

you lot have been to the temple of ages, i take it? (sarcasme mode off)

there is a scribe there or accolyte or similar. he speaks about the fact that Tryia was the First world the Gods created, but not the Last.
he also mentions something about an exodus....as in with a Captial E Exodus.

so....this should mean that....(possible spoiler)
since there are off worlders interfiereing in the lives of tyrians right now, there are more worlds out there that the Gods, in there creative vigours days, created.

what does that mean?

Travel to other worlds....meet interesting and new races and people..and then kill them

i assume that since they say you wont *HAVE* to deleat an older char to play the 2nd chapter, they mean that there will be new classes. not that you will be able to start a new class at lvl 20 accended.

could even be that, once you have finished the Tyrian game parts (chap 1) that you can now make your way off world with a done char, or even play on another of the Gods Worlds, with a new race and new class character

also, dont forget that there are large areas of the map down in the southern areas that have yet to be added. they could hold portals to other worlds...portals that are missions in themselves, with your characters having to open them....think of it like...guildwars+stargate minus sci-fi and +fantasy worlds.

[i assume that since they say you wont *HAVE* to deleat an older char to play the 2nd chapter, they mean that there will be new classes. not that you will be able to start a new class at lvl 20 accended.]

That statement though was in answer to adding more character slots to the game, so yeah there will be at least one new character slot in chapter II and possibly a couple of new classes.

But, it also says in one of the interviews that most of the content for Chapter II is for ascended players and there are a "few" areas for other levels of players. So, it looks like pre-searing is always going to be the place to start out a new character and the Chapters will always add mostly ascended content with a "few" areas for other levels of players.

So, when Chapter II comes out it looks like it will be a lvl 20/ascended player rush to all the areas/missions to find that "solo" farming spot for uber loot income. lol I just hope they make the second chapter where solo farming is impossible. Which would be very easy if they just create mobs in groups of at least 8 with at least a mesmer, necro, ele and monk in them, that'll take care of 105/55 builds easily for soloing and bring more grouping content back into the game.

Add new and better looking uber leet armors that only drops can be found in Chapter II and ecto will become worthless as people will want to move to the new uber leet great looking armor. hehe

true, but i still think that you will have to get at least one lvl 20 ass character to be able to move to a new world, so you wouldnt need to make new chars to get there i mean...um...

ok...like this

assume i have at least one character that has finished the game.
i buy chapter 2.
i get 2 slots (not fact, just for sake of argument) new with the 2nd Chap
i can now choose to a...start another char in Tyria with a new class combo
b....change my lvl 20 ass chars second class to a new one and learn more skills
c...move my lvl 20 ass char to a new area in the game, where i have to mission to get the Portals open to g to another world
or.....
d....make a lvl 1 new RACE character on a New world, and have new areas to explore and new critters to fight...
and e....after getting my lvl 20 ass char to the New World, i can killl the same new critters that my alien friend can do, but probably be at a diss advantage, cause i need stuff and armour and skills that affect the critters on this world...

anyone notice that ghosts have health and bodies in this game?
well, maybe the Next World critters will be incorporial....truly ghostly, and our Tyrian wepons will not hurt them much, if at all.
we would have to use spells and other stuff, like special wepons...
(and maybe those ghostly items might be the only Tyrian stuff that will hurt them, you never know...)

I think you might be on the right track here.

To keep the GW series going financially, I think ANet has to try and increase its fan base as well i.e. sell the game to people who have not bought the first chapter. If they only concentrate on selling the game to people who have bought and completed the previous chapter, they cannot get more people to purchase the game and eventually the whole series will die out.

For example: 1milloin ppl buy GW chapter 1, 500k ppl buy chapter 2, 250k ppl buy chapter 3...sooner or later not enough ppl will buy to keep the series profitable and all service stops...

The solution would have to be inticing people who are totally new to the GW series. How do you do this without including at least a portion of game for them? A new chapter could not be soley meant for higher level ppl who have completed chapter 1...unless they include chapter 1 in the sales package OR they have seperate quests meant for beginners.

Another solution is to have the same quests for all but the difficulty of the quests (i.e. levels of the monsters) would be dependent on the lvl of the player. So the in would be taken care of in the Instancing part of the game. The problem comes when you try to make a PUG for missions where player lvl could be quite varied. In this case there would have to be a limit as to what lvl can group with each other.
